Japanese Restaurant — where the name says sushi, but the grill says Korea

a table topped with bowls and plates of food

Just outside Gaitilan, I came across Japanese Restaurant — yes, it’s called “Japanese,” but don’t expect sushi or sashimi. Instead, it’s tasty Korean BBQ right at your table, where you can grill your own food or let the friendly staff do it for you.
Outdoor seating, simple tables, sea in sight, main road buzzing nearby — adding to the lively local vibe. The smells from the grills, the chatter of the family running the place, and the occasional sound of the waves made the spot instantly feel friendly and inviting. Even the youngest daughter, maybe six years old, served me with a huge smile — it was impossible not to smile back.
They have two all-you-can-eat options: seafood for 499 pesos (≈ 8,50 € / 9,00 $) or without seafood for 299 pesos (≈ 5,10 € / 5,50 $). The menu includes chicken, shrimp, squid, various rice options, spicy noodles, and a range of sauces to mix and match. My favorites? The marinated pork belly — juicy, flavorful, and absolutely divine — and the homemade kimchi, which was exceptionally good, not too spicy, just perfectly flavorful. I even bought half a kilo of kimchi for 200 pesos (≈ 3,40 € / 3,60 $) to take home! All menu items can be ordered as much as you like. Pro tip: don’t over-order — leftovers cost extra. I played it smart and ordered half portions first, topping up whenever I wanted more. Perfect strategy.
Open practically all day, it’s easy to visit anytime. Parking is available, so no worries. The food is delicious, prices are fair, and the family atmosphere — from the parents to the kids helping out — makes every visit feel special. The combination of sizzling grills, fresh sea breeze, and the hum of local life makes every meal enjoyable.
